Why engagement rate benchmarks matter

A 2% engagement rate can be excellent in one industry and mediocre in another. Without context, raw numbers are meaningless. Benchmarks turn your engagement rate into a competitive signal — one you can actually act on.

LinkedIn's algorithm uses engagement rate as a primary distribution signal. Posts that outperform their industry average in the first 60 minutes get amplified significantly, while underperformers are shown to fewer people. Understanding where you sit relative to peers helps you set realistic targets and identify which content types to double down on.

Follower count is the single biggest factor in expected engagement rate. Creators with under 5K followers routinely see 4–6% rates, while those with 100K+ followers average below 1.5%. This tool accounts for that dilution effect so you're always comparing apples to apples.
