LinkedIn displays video thumbnails in two different aspect ratios depending on the device. On desktop, a 16:9 frame is shown mostly intact, though the top and bottom edges may still be slightly clipped. On mobile, LinkedIn renders videos as a square (1:1) crop, cutting the left and right 28% of a 16:9 frame.
This means if you place your logo, face, or headline text near the edges of the frame, mobile viewers will never see it. Since a significant share of LinkedIn traffic comes from mobile, this is not a minor issue.
Use this tool to preview both cropping modes before publishing. Upload your video thumbnail or a screenshot of the first frame to see exactly what survives on each platform.
Keep faces and subjects centered
A face near the edge of a 16:9 frame will be cropped on mobile. Center-frame positioning survives both layouts.
Put text in the middle 60-70%
Any text placed in the outer 28% of the frame width will not be readable on mobile feeds.
Avoid top and bottom 15% for key info
Captions, logos, or CTAs placed at the very top or bottom may be clipped even on desktop in certain feed layouts.
